When you are moving, most people are focused on moving their plates or appliances. Few people are worried about and plan for packing their clothing. While you might not be as worried about packing your clothing, it can be a lot to do if you don’t have a game plan.
As Nashville movers, we have years of experience working with families. We have noticed that many people scramble when it comes to packing up their clothes. Here are some tips to avoid the last minute panic and packing craze.
- Get Rid of Excess- When you find out that you are moving, start going through your clothes are donate items you no longer wear. Whether the clothes no longer fit, are out of style, or just plain worn out, you don’t want to move items you won’t use.
- Organize and Start Packing- Organize your clothes by season and how you want to pack them. Start packing up the items that are out of season, so you have less to pack come moving day. If you have a lot of extra t-shirts, pajamas, shoes, etc., start packing up the extras so you don’t have to scramble to pack them up later.
- Utilize Containers- You have drawers, suitcases, bags, etc. that you will need to move so why not utilize them? Instead of getting boxes to pack your clothes, pack them in these containers. Be sure to roll your clothes instead of folding them as this takes up less space.
- Pack Hanging Clothes in Bags- The easiest way to move your hanging clothes is to keep them on the hanger. Not only can you utilize a wardrobe box, but you can use large trash bags as well. Rip a hole in the bottom of the trash bag and slip the hooks of the hangers through it. Then tie the bag shut to keep any loose items from falling out.
