Our History
Founder Dustin Black was born into his father’s moving company. After lending his services to his dad as a child, he spent four years in the real estate industry. Both experiences taught him how barren the relocation industry had become. It was plagued with shoddy planning, language barriers, and underwhelming support. That wasn’t the worst of it, though. Dustin learned that movers with criminal records were entering homes unsupervised. When you invite strangers into your home, you should be able to trust their credentials.
Dustin’s own relocation challenges only deepened those realizations, so he decided to do something about it. He sent out no less than 18,000 emails to survey realtors’ experiences of moving companies. He discovered that only 35% of relocation companies were licensed or insured. He also saw a dire lack of end-to-end service. Dustin saw several holes in an underdeveloped industry and wondered if he could fill them. The rest, as they say, is history. Black Tie Moving opened its doors in 2012. Since then, it has grown to include 25 franchises and 20 corporate locations.
